It can be gained by sailing, restoring various structures, building ships and interacting with Mermaids. It is a game mechanic very similar to the Happiness level. Treasures of the mermaid contain gold, resources, and objects that you can glean on the maritime islands, depending on the level of the lighthouse. As far as game mechanics go, this feature works the same as safes, so you should be very familiar with it.
